Private Pay Only.

Please note that I do not accept insurance directly and we are not in-network or INN with any insurance companies; however, there are many options to help make your therapy journey more affordable.

How can we make private-pay therapy more affordable?

Private pay may sound scary but it may be easier than you think.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

  • Confidentiality & Privacy

    • Therapists who accept insurance are required to submit case notes from each session to “prove” the worth of the work. As a trauma therapist, I believe this practice poses a risk to your privacy and confidentiality. I do keep clinical notes as every clinician does; however, I prefer to keep your data from major corporations or possible exposure to any AI

  • Time

    •  Insurance companies often give a limited amount of mental health sessions that do not align with a realistic amount of time to complete trauma treatment

  • Efficiency

    • Therapists who accept insurance spend (a lot of) time outside of session interacting with insurance companies, filling out paperwork and completing tasks outside of the therapeutic role. Limiting the time that I spend on this work allows me to spend more time & energy focused on supporting you as my client

  • Cost

    • As a certified EMDR therapist am a specialized trauma therapist who spent years of additional training and specialized supervision that cost thousands of dollars. Insurance companies often do not review the credentials of a therapist in terms of their certifications. For myself, being an ethical therapist in my clinical practice requires me to incur extra costs so that I can be the best therapist for you.

    • My practice is a sole practice which means that I must include the costs of business in my rate. Costs of business include office rent, electricity, education, beverages/snacks, taxes, and more. I invest in my business because I am investing in you & your therapy experience; I want your experience to be as optimal as possible.

Options

Private Pay

I can afford treatment

Great! You will pay out of pocket for your treatment. Set up a consultation and get started. Yay!

Out-of-Network (OON) Insurance Benefits

I can afford to pay out of pocket with a little bit of support.

You will pay out of pocket and then submit super bills to your insurance company

(*coverage varies depending on your benefits)

Sliding Scale

I cannot afford treatment out-of-pocket and I do not have insurance or my insurance does not cover EMDR/mental health treatment

You will set up initial 15-minute free consultation and discuss your barriers to access and find an accessible rate for you ($100 -125) (subject to availability)

These spots are prioritized for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals

How to submit for out-of-network (OON) benefits?

  • Call the number on the back of your insurance card

  • Ask about outpatient mental health coverages - I recommend mentioning that the provider specializes in EMDR (insurance/doctors love EMDR)

  • They may ask why you are seeking to use OON (out of network) instead of INN (in-network), you can let them know that you needed someone who specializes in trauma or that other providers did not offer the kind of therapy you need based on your history

  • Then they should let you know how it works for your coverage, be sure to ask about where you should submit your super bills for reimbursement

What is a super bill?

A superbill is a detailed, itemized receipt that a healthcare provider gives to a patient, especially when the provider is not in the patient's insurance network.

It includes information like patient details, provider information, diagnosis codes, procedure codes, dates of service, and the cost of each service, enabling the patient to submit a claim to their insurance company for reimbursement

Victim’s Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP)

Please note: In the past, Partly Cloudy Counseling has accepted VCAP for survivors of sexual abuse who are residents in the state of Pennsylvania. Due to the changes in this administration, accepting state funding no longer became feasible. To return support for these and related social programs, please contact your local politicians to support mental health support in the criminal justice system.

I can support you through the process.
